Sentinel lymph node scintigraphy

Aim of the examination:

  • Marking of the sentinel lymph node preoperatively

Indications:

Imaging of lymphatic drainage conditions in the vicinity of malignant tumors


Preparation for the examination: no special preparation on the part of the patient is necessary

Procedure of the examination:

  • Consultation with the doctor to explain any uncertainties regarding the examination
  • Visualization of the sentinel lymph node:
  • Injection of the radiopharmaceutical around the tumor
  • Taking images at the injection site and in the area of the sentinel lymph node
  • Repeat imaging after 2 hours
  • Marking of the sentinel lymph node
  • Debriefing, brief findings are provided
  • Findings are sent to the requesting physician in writing as soon as possible

Radiopharmaceutical used: Tc-99m labeled colloidal particles (e.g. denatured albumin)
