Sentinel lymph node scintigraphy
Aim of the examination:
- Marking of the sentinel lymph node preoperatively
Indications:
Imaging of lymphatic drainage conditions in the vicinity of malignant tumors
Preparation for the examination: no special preparation on the part of the patient is necessary
Procedure of the examination:
- Consultation with the doctor to explain any uncertainties regarding the examination
- Visualization of the sentinel lymph node:
- Injection of the radiopharmaceutical around the tumor
- Taking images at the injection site and in the area of the sentinel lymph node
- Repeat imaging after 2 hours
- Marking of the sentinel lymph node
- Debriefing, brief findings are provided
- Findings are sent to the requesting physician in writing as soon as possible
Radiopharmaceutical used: Tc-99m labeled colloidal particles (e.g. denatured albumin)
