Skeletal scintigraphy
Aim of the investigation:
- Visualization and assessment of bone metabolism using radiochemically labeled phosphonates
- Localization of bone metabolism disorders
Indications:
- Secondary bone tumors (metastases from e.g. prostate carcinoma, renal cell carcinoma, breast carcinoma)
- Primary bone tumors
- Inflammatory skeletal and joint diseases
- Osteonecrosis
- loosening of artificial joints
- Detection of unrecognized fractures
Preparation for the examination:
- Special preparation on the part of the patient is not necessary
Procedure of the examination:
- Doctor's consultation to explain any uncertainties regarding the examination
- Injection of the radiopharmaceutical
- Waiting time of approx. 3-4 hours
- During this time, the patient should drink as much as possible (approx. 1 bottle of water)
- It is not necessary to stay in the clinic
- Production of the images
- Post consultation
- The findings are sent to the requesting doctor in writing as soon as possible
