When is a computed tomography performed?

When is a CT performed?

The range of questions that can be answered with a CT scan is wide. Because it can be performed so quickly, it is particularly suitable for acute problems such as strokes, serious accidents, hemorrhages, pulmonary artery occlusions, and other emergencies. However, it also plays an important role in the routine care of patients, e.g. for the diagnosis of the spread of tumors, preoperative planning, or postoperative checks. Due to the further development of technology, direct imaging of the heart and coronary arteries has also been possible for several years, which can replace invasive diagnostics by means of cardiac catheterization in many cases (siehe Kardio-CT).
