Lung Perfusion/Ventilation Scintigraphy
Aim of the investigation:
- Assessment of regional lung perfusion
- Assessment of regional lung ventilation
Indications:
- Detection/exclusion of pulmonary embolism
- Assessment of pre- or postoperative lung function
- Assessment of a left-right short circuit of the lung
Preparation for the examination: Special preparation on the part of the patient is not necessary
Procedure of the examination:
- Consultation with the doctor to explain any uncertainties regarding the examination
- Ventilation scintigraphy performed first
-
- Before the examination, the patient should cough and take several deep breaths to loosen mucus and expand the lungs
- Breathe in the aerosol for 1-3 minutes
- Rinse the mouth with water to remove any disturbing activity in the mouth and oesophagus
- Taking the pictures
- This is followed by perfusion scintigraphy:
-
- Several deep breaths should be taken during the intravenous injection of the radiopharmaceutical
- Taking the images
- Debriefing
- The findings are sent to the requesting physician in writing as soon as possible
- Special features: depending on the problem, it may only be necessary to perform lung perfusion scintigraphy or lung ventilation scintigraphy
Radiopharmaceutical used:
- Lung ventilation:Tc99m aerosol
- Lung perfusion: Tc-99m MAA
