Examination of source of bleeding
Aim of the examination: Localization of a source of bleeding
Indications: abdominal bleeding (especially in the gastrointestinal tract)
Preparation for the examination: the patient should bring a current laboratory test with them
Procedure of the examination:
- Consultation with the doctor to explain any uncertainties regarding the examination
- Blood sampling
- Marking of the erythrocytes with a radiopharmaceutical
- Reinjection of the labeled blood
- Taking several images up to 24 hours after injection
- Debriefing
- The findings are sent to the requesting doctor in writing as soon as possible
Radiopharmaceutical used: Tc-99m labeled autologous erythrocytes
