In-transporter scintigraphy with 123I-FP-CIT (DATSCAN)

Aim of the examination: visualization of presynaptic D2 receptors

Indications: Differentiation of an essential tremor from so-called Parkinson's syndromes

Preparation for the examination:

  • Please bring your current medication with you
  • The following medications should be discontinued 4 weeks before the examination after consultation with the treating neurologist:
    • Amphetamines, cocaine, benzatropine (Cogentinol)
    • Bupropion (Zyban, Wellbutrin)
    • Methylphenidate (Ritalin)
    • Mazindol (Sanorex)
    • Phentermine as a sympathomimetic amine (Adipex, Fastin)
    • Sertraline as SSRI (Zoloft)

Procedure of the examination:

  • Consultation with the doctor to explain any uncertainties regarding the examination
  • Blockade of the thyroid gland with perchlorate (Irenat drops)
  • Injection of the radiopharmaceutical after 30 minutes
  • Acquisition of the images after approx. 3 hours
  • Debriefing
  • Findings are sent to the requesting doctor in writing as soon as possible

Radiopharmaceutical used: J-123-FP-CIT (DatScan)
