In-transporter scintigraphy with 123I-FP-CIT (DATSCAN)
Aim of the examination: visualization of presynaptic D2 receptors
Indications: Differentiation of an essential tremor from so-called Parkinson's syndromes
Preparation for the examination:
- Please bring your current medication with you
- The following medications should be discontinued 4 weeks before the examination after consultation with the treating neurologist:
- Amphetamines, cocaine, benzatropine (Cogentinol)
- Bupropion (Zyban, Wellbutrin)
- Methylphenidate (Ritalin)
- Mazindol (Sanorex)
- Phentermine as a sympathomimetic amine (Adipex, Fastin)
- Sertraline as SSRI (Zoloft)
Procedure of the examination:
- Consultation with the doctor to explain any uncertainties regarding the examination
- Blockade of the thyroid gland with perchlorate (Irenat drops)
- Injection of the radiopharmaceutical after 30 minutes
- Acquisition of the images after approx. 3 hours
- Debriefing
- Findings are sent to the requesting doctor in writing as soon as possible
